FIBUSPAM would like to extend a special thank you to the students of Linden Hall school who volunteered their spring break to serve the children of Chimborazo. The trip was such a great success and their efforts helped change the lives of many. Thank you!
We are delighted to share an original short essay and video created by a Linden Hall student about their experience.
I have always wanted to go on a medical mission and when my school offered the trip I begged my parents to let me spend my spring break volunteering in Ecuador. The trip far exceeded my expectations. I was able to be exposed to the true happiness of the children even in the poverty that they faced. We spent three days playing with the children and administering eye exams to approximately 550 of them which was well over what we expected. At the end of our clinic days, myself, along with the other eleven girls I traveled with, asked if we could skip the tourism aspect and add extra clinic time. To us, volunteering in Ecuador was not getting our required community service hours; it did not feel like work. This trip was a genuine adventure and a life changing experience from the second we stepped foot on Ecuadorian soil. As soon as I landed in the states, the first thing I did was figure out how much it would cost me to fly back to Ecuador and do this over again. I cannot wait to return to Ecuador as soon as time allows and continue the amazing work that FIBUSPAM and VHI let us become a part of.
