On September 14, 2010 at a gala dinner in New York City, Clinic Founder Paul Martel was named the winner of the Investment News Community Leadership award for Global Community Impact.
The award carried a generous $15,000 gift to Clinica Dulce Refugio in honor of Paul’s humanitarian work in Central and South America. Upon receiving the award, Paul announced that it would be used to fund the construction of the Clinic’s second floor which will house an operating room, a delivery room and patient rooms with six beds. “The clinic is a place that offers hope to a population of people. It is an oasis in the midst of great need and suffering.” The evening was hosted by Investment News and featured keynote speakers Leigh Anne and Sean Touhy, the inspiration for the best selling book and feature film, “The Blind Side.”
The fourth annual Community Leadership Awards honored financial advisers who have made a difference in their communities through their charitable efforts. The awards were presented by the Invest in Others Foundation of Investment News. The 15 finalists and five winners who werehonored were chosen from 300 nominations. Kandis Bates, President of the Foundation said, “the honorees have given hope to each of us here tonight, showing us the way to better our world, one community at a time.”
